Step-Parent Adoptions We at Dimnik & Company are pleased to be able to assist in helping step-parents in the adoption of their spouse's children. An adoption has the effect of making your spouses' child your legal child for all intents and purposes. A new birth certificate will even be issued to reflect the adoptive parent as the birth mother or father accordingly. An adoption will not normally proceed without the consent of the other birth parent and all other guardians. If this consent can not be obtained (i.e. death of other birth parent, or unwillingness to give consent) then an application can be made to dispense with the consent as long as it is in the best interests of the child. Please contact our office for more information about the step-parent adoption process. Please note that for non-step parent adoptions interested parties must contact an accredited adoption agency. |
